St Catherine’s College

The trustees were delighted to be able to support St Catherine’s College, in Eastbourne, with new outdoor adventure equipment.  We have been told “the pupils love it”.

The trustees were delighted to be able to provide St Wilfred’s Hospice with an electric reclining chair.

Canine Partners help Claire

The trustees were delighted to be able to help Canine Partners who have transformed the life of Eastbourne resident Claire.

Here is an extract from the press release about Claire.

Claire lives in Eastbourne and she was matched to a specially trained assistance dog called Ulli, who was trained by charity Canine Partners in 2005. The two of them had a bond like no other and soon  became inseparable.

Not only did Ulli help Claire, who has the spinal condition transverse myelitis which affects her mobility, with everyday tasks, including getting dressed, fetching the post and anything she dropped – he also gave her back the confidence to go outside again………

East Sussex Foster Care Association

The trustees were pleased to be able to support the East Sussex Foster Care Association who bought 206 tickets for the Panto in Eastbourne.  Foster families enjoyed a performance of Cinderella at the Devonshire Park Theatre where it was the first ever theatre experience for many of the children and their faces told a story of joy and happiness.

Through Care Service

The Trustees were delighted to be able to help the Through Care Service provide a young people’s Christmas party for around 100 young people.

Old Town Library

Old Town Library now has splendid new signage after a successful grant application to the Trust.

Association of Carers

The trustees were pleased to help the Association of Carers provide a Christmas Lunch for a local group of carers.

Oakwood Primary Academy

“We are absolutely delighted with the donation made by the John Jackson Trust.  The children now have a beautiful surface area on which to play and develop their outside learning.  On behalf of all of the children and staff, thank you!” – Oakfield Primary Academy

Motcombe Gardens Dovecote

Excavation, Investigation and Renovation work at the Motcombe Gardens Dovecote, in Old Town.

The trustees have been able to support the Friends of Motcombe Gardens with this project and a  sign will shortly be erected in front of the Dovecote outlining its history.

Civilian War Memorial

The  trustees  were able to contribute to the cost of establishing a Peace Garden situated at the Wish Tower, Eastbourne in memory of the people killed and injured in the bombing raids on the town during the war of 1939-45 and in memory of the fortitude of residents during those years.

The centre piece of the Peace Garden is a  nine ton piece of glacial granite with a  plaque bearing the names of the 180 civilians who lost their lives in bombing.

Royal Hippodrome Theatre

The trustees were pleased to help the Royal Hippodrome Theatre in Eastbourne as an important asset for the benefit of people in Eastbourne.  The John Jackson Charitable Trust together with the Lottery provided the funding that had a £100,000 makeover with the  restoration of the building’s deteriorating facade .

The Haven School – Polli:Nation

The Haven School have been presented with a Polli:Nation certificate and legacy pack for successfully changing the school environment to encourage pollinating insects.

The Haven school are now considered ambassadors in the South East for its efforts. 

The trustees of the trust  are pleased to have supported the school on this initiative.

Motcombe Primary School

The Trustees were pleased to assist Motcombe School  with a new hall ceiling and lighting.

It has made a huge difference and the children are looking forward to putting on performances in the new improved hall.

BDAA – Disabled Angling

The Trustees were please to assist the British Disabled Angling Association in improving   the facilities at Hailsham Country Park.  Disabled access platforms were built  which allow wheelchair users to fish.

Band of Brothers

The trustees were  glad to be able to assist the Band of Brothers with their mentoring scheme in Eastbourne.

Sussex Wildlife Trust

A grant enabled two courses of Wellbeing in the Wild to take place for the benefite of people from Eastbourne with mental health problems. The courses were a fantastic success and 16 beneficiares completed wildlife and nature focused activities which boosted their confidence and self-esteem.
